Intel Prepares Arrow Lake Refresh CPUs with Enhanced Gaming Performance and AI Capabilities
Intel is preparing to launch its Arrow Lake Refresh processor family in the second half of 2025, according to sources familiar with the matter speaking to ZDNet Korea. The upcoming refresh aims to address early performance concerns with the base Arrow Lake generation while introducing enhanced artificial intelligence capabilities that meet Microsoft's Copilot+ AI PC standards.
The Arrow Lake Refresh processors will feature increased base clock and maximum boost clock frequencies, positioning them for significantly improved gaming performance compared to their predecessors. Intel plans to maintain compatibility with the existing LGA1851 socket, extending platform support for another generation until the arrival of Nova Lake-S processors.

A key enhancement in the refresh generation involves the integration of Intel's NPU4 (Neural Processing Unit) on the IO tile, replacing the NPU3 found in base Arrow Lake processors. The original NPU3 failed to meet the 40 TOPS (Tera Operations Per Second) requirement necessary for Copilot+ AI PC certification. With NPU4, Intel will finally achieve this benchmark, allowing the company to market these processors as fully AI PC-ready.

Intel has been experimenting with Intel Performance Optimizer (IPO) technology, which fine-tunes various system components including P-core and E-core frequencies, ring-bus speeds, and memory timings. The Nova Lake-S architecture will incorporate a mix of P-cores (Performance), E-cores (Efficiency), and LPE cores (Low Power Efficiency), representing Intel's most ambitious consumer processor design to date.
The Arrow Lake Refresh represents Intel's commitment to iterative improvement while maintaining platform stability for consumers and manufacturers.
